Măgina Monastery

Măgina, Alba

The Holy Trinity Monastery in Măgina is located in the village of the same name, part of the municipality of Aiud. The monastery has been documented since the second half of the sixteenth century and has a small stone church at its center. Its history is also linked to Romanian education: imperial documents from 1784 and 1785 mention it among the Romanian schools in Transylvania.

During the Revolution of 1848–1849, a military camp was organized in Măgina to defend the people living in the mountains. The church was later renovated, and the restoration in the second half of the twentieth century ended with its re-consecration in 1992. The monastery is still active, dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
