Măgura Ocnei Monastery
Târgu Ocna, Bacău
The Măgura Ocnei monastery is located on the heights near the town of Târgu Ocna, in Bacău county. Monastic life in this area is documented in the seventeenth century, and the buildings were rebuilt in successive stages. The present church is cruciform in plan and has a wide eaves roof.
The interior features fresco painting, stained glass windows and carved oak doors. The buildings of the monastery surround the courtyard on the hilltops. The position above the city and the wooded slopes are the natural elements that frame the ensemble.
