Maramureș County Museum of History and Archaeology
The Maramureș County Museum of History and Archeology presents its collections in the complex of the former Mint, on Monetăriei Street in Baia Mare. The buildings are linked to the processing of precious metals, and this history continues in the mining exhibitions. Tools, lamps used underground and documents show how the people who supported the region's economy worked. The visit thus also provides context for the many historical landmarks found in the city.
The collections also cover older eras, through archaeological finds, guild objects, coins and weapons. The exhibition dedicated to timepieces adds a different theme to the route through the museum. Components of the old gold and silver refining facility are also preserved in the mining area. The headquarters in the Mint is distinct from the Butchers' Bastion, located in another part of the city, although both are administered by the same institution.
