Márton Áron National College

Miercurea Ciuc, Harghita

Márton Áron National College in Miercurea Ciuc operates in a building erected between 1909 and 1911. The final project was made by the architect Sándor Pápai to bring together the secondary school, the seminary and the boarding school. The ensemble has three wings, a central body accentuated by towers and richly decorated facades. The windows with rosettes, pediments and plant motifs combine historical styles with Art Nouveau.

The institution continues the tradition of the Catholic secondary school founded by the Franciscans from Șumuleu in the seventeenth century. Since 1990, it has been named after Bishop Márton Áron, a former student of the school. The building was restored between 2009 and 2011 and retains its educational function. The facade and statues in the outdoor area can be seen from the street; access to the building follows the rules of the schools operating here.
