Master Manole's Fountain
Master Manole’s Fountain is across the road from Curtea de Argeș Monastery, in Manole's Park. The monument recalls the legend of the craftsman who allegedly built the monastery church and his attempt to descend from the roof with wings made of wooden shingles.
In the story, a spring gushes up where Manole falls to the ground; this is legend, not a documented historical fact. The inventory of the National Heritage Institute records a fountain built here in 1804, at the initiative of Bishop Iosif of Argeș. The fountain, with its basin, inscription and roof, stands in a green area a short distance from the entrance to the monastery complex.
