Mausoleum in Mărășești
The mausoleum in Mărășești, in Vrancea county, commemorates the soldiers who fell in the battles of the First World War. Built in two stages, between 1923 and 1938, it was designed by George Cristinel and Constantin Pomponiu. The upper part, called the Dome of Glory, has reliefs made by the sculptors Cornel Medrea and Ion Jalea.
Inside are the crypts of the heroes and the sarcophagus of General Eremia Grigorescu, commander of the First Army during the battle of 1917. A separate building of the ensemble houses the museum of the battles of Mărășești, with photographs, documents, weapons and military equipment. Access to the monument is from DN2.
