Mendel Villa in Turda

Turda, Cluj

The Mendel Villa is located on Dr. Ioan Rațiu Street in Turda, Cluj County. The residence was erected at the beginning of the twentieth century for the merchant Simon Mendel, known for his business ventures in the town. The building is in the Secession style, the Central European variant of the Art Nouveau movement. The main facade has a pediment with curved lines, windows of different shapes and ornaments that distinguish it from the neighboring houses.

After nationalization, the building housed the Army House, then the Military Club. It is currently used by Casa Remo, a guesthouse that keeps the former owner's name in its account of the building's history. For a stop focused on architecture, the main point of interest is the exterior, visible from the street: the raised central part, the roof and the decoration of the facade. It is not confirmed that visitors can enter the rooms.
