Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași

Iași, Iași

The Metropolitan Cathedral stands in the center of Iași, Iași County, on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard. Construction began in the nineteenth century and was completed in 1887, after Alexandru Orăscu reworked the design. The facades with columns and the corner towers give it a monumental appearance.

The interior murals were painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu. The church holds the reliquary with the relics of Saint Parascheva, the destination of a pilgrimage every October. The cathedral is part of the complex of the Metropolitanate of Moldavia and Bucovina, together with administrative buildings, courtyards and other places of worship.
