Metropolitan Cathedral in Timișoara

Timișoara, Timiș

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Timișoara stands at the end of the Victoriei Square, near the Bega River. Built between 1936 and 1941, according to the project of the architect Ioan Traianescu, the church is dedicated to the Three Holy Hierarchs and has a profile dominated by high towers and roofs with colored tiles.

The facades combine exposed brick with stone and arches inspired by Moldavian architecture. Inside you can see the painting, the iconostasis and the columns that delimit the central space. The cathedral preserves the relics of Saint Joseph the New from Partoș and a collection of church art, with icons, books and liturgical objects.
