Mihai Codreanu Museum – Sonet Villa
Vila Sonet, on Rece Street in Iași, is the house where the poet Mihai Codreanu lived from 1934. The city hall had given him the land in recognition of his literary work. The building, with a tall roof and Romanian architectural details, became a museum in 1970, with its rooms and the family’s belongings kept as they were.
On the ground floor you can see the study, the dining room and the bedroom, furnished with the furniture and objects that were part of the poet's life. The library, manuscripts, letters and first editions of his books show how the sonnet writer worked. Photographs, medals and translations round out the exhibition. The rooms became part of the museum through the will of Ecaterina Codreanu, the writer's wife, so a visit still feels like stepping into a private home.
