Mikó Castle
Miercurea Ciuc, Harghita
Mikó Castle is located in Miercurea Ciuc, Harghita County, and houses the Szekler Museum of Ciuc. Construction began in 1623, at the initiative of Ferenc Mikó, captain of the Szekler seats in the region. The quadrilateral plan and the corner bastions give it the appearance of a fortified residence.
Around the inner courtyard there are halls with exhibitions about the history, ethnography and art of the Ciuc area. The castle was rebuilt after being destroyed in the seventeenth century and later had military functions. The walls, gates and vaulted spaces still bear traces of these uses.
