Milos
Greece
The Venus de Milo statue, now in the Louvre, comes from Milos, a volcanic island in the southwestern Cyclades. On the coast at Sarakiniko, wind and water have shaped white rock formations, and above the port of Adamantas lies Plaka, the main town. Obsidian from Milos, a glass-like volcanic rock, was already sought after 15,000 years ago for very sharp tools.
