Mureș Floodplain, Arad and Timiș
The Lunca Mureșului Natural Park follows the Mureș River from Arad to the border with Hungary, on the territory of Arad and Timiș counties. The protected area includes floodplain forests, river channels, ponds and flood-prone land. Water and sand deposits gradually change the shape of the banks and islands.
Vegetation and animals are adapted to the periodic flooding of the river. The landscape features dense forests, wetlands and open spaces used by birds. The park was declared a protected area in 2004, for the preservation of this sector of the Mureș floodplain.
