Museikon in Alba Iulia
Museikon in Alba Iulia is dedicated to icons, old books and religious art. The museum was opened in 2017, on Unirii street, in a restored historical building. The collection brings together the heritage of the National Union Museum and the Orthodox Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. Old icons and volumes are presented in rooms designed to trace the details of painting and writing.
The building itself preserves several layers of history: portions of the Roman wall, medieval constructions and fittings from the period when it functioned as a military hospital. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museikon organizes thematic and contemporary art exhibitions, workshops and cultural meetings. The institution also has a laboratory for the restoration of painting on wood and glass.
