Museum of the National Bank of Romania
The museum of the National Bank of Romania is located in the Old Palace of the bank, in the historic center of Bucharest, on Lipscani street. The visit brings together the architecture of the headquarters and the collections that follow the use of money in Romania. Coins, banknotes and documents allow observing the changes in metal, design and technique through which the means of payment have gone.
The history of the leu occupies an important place in the presentation of the museum, from the appearance of the national currency in the nineteenth century to modern banknotes. The details on the pieces, portraits and symbols also show how the money reflected the eras in which it circulated. Visiting is only possible through guided tours, with prior appointment on the museum portal. The tour lasts about an hour, and the entrance is on Lipscani street no. 25. Upon access, the original ID document declared in the reservation must be presented.
