Museum of Writers from Dâmbovița
The Museum of Writers from Dâmbovița is in the house built for Ioan Alexandru Brătescu-Voinești at the end of the nineteenth century, on Justiției Street in Târgoviște. The writer lived here with his family until 1916, and the building became a museum in 1968. The house underwent changes after its sale, but kept rooms and details from the time when it was the author’s home.
The visit shows the connection between Romanian literature and the town where writers from Dâmbovița lived or worked. Part of the appeal is domestic: the garden, the rooms and the Latin mottos preserved in the house round out the biographical story. In the garden is the lime tree planted by Brătescu-Voinești in 1903.
