Nămăești Monastery
Nămăești, Argeș
Nămăești Monastery is in Nămăești village, Valea Mare-Pravăț commune, Argeș County, close to Câmpulung. The church is carved into a rock outcrop, and a masonry section closes off the mouth of the cave. Documents from the sixteenth century already mention the stone church.
Inside there is an icon of the Mother of God, linked to traditions about the founding of the monastery. The courtyard, bell tower and monastic buildings are set against the rocky wall. The combination of natural rock and masonry can be seen both at the entrance and in the interior of the church.
