National Museum of Art of Romania

Bucharest

The former Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei, in the center of Bucharest, houses the National Art Museum of Romania. The institution was founded in 1948 and preserves collections of Romanian and European art.

The National Gallery covers old and modern Romanian art, with works by painters such as Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu and Ion Andreescu. The European Art Gallery gathers painting and sculpture from several artistic schools. The European collection grew from the paintings collected by King Carol I.
