National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians
The National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians is based in Sfântu Gheorghe on Gábor Áron Street. The institution researches and preserves the archaeological, historical and ethnographic heritage of the region. The permanent exhibition at this headquarters is dedicated to the prehistoric settlement of Păuleni-Ciuc, Dâmbul Cetății, researched in Harghita county.
The exhibition route presents objects discovered in excavations and reconstructions of the spaces in which they were used. Dwellings, hearths, pottery kilns and ritual arrangements help to understand the life of prehistoric communities. A stratigraphic profile shows the sequence of archaeological deposits. The Cucuteni–Ariușd–Tripolie, Costișa and Wietenberg cultures are represented, through vestiges and explanations about housing, crafts and religious practices. The exhibition can be visited in the museum building in Sfântu Gheorghe.
