National Theatre in Caracal

The National Theater in Caracal stands on Cuza Vodă Street in Caracal, Olt County. The foundation stone was laid in 1896, to designs by the Austrian architect Franz Bileck. The richly ornamented facade and the decoration of the hall reflect the town’s ambition to have a monumental cultural building.
The exterior features pediments, reliefs, large windows and decorative columns. The performance hall has boxes and an ornate ceiling. Over time, actors such as Grigore Vasiliu Birlic, George Vraca and Dina Cocea have performed here. The building was restored and reopened after the work was completed in 2008.
