Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Valea Mare

Valea Mare-Podgoria, Ștefănești, Argeș

The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Valea Mare-Podgoria was the church of the former hermitage of Gura Văii Mari. It was built between 1678 and 1688, during the reign of Șerban Cantacuzino, by Necula, a jupân (an honorary title given to boyars and court officials), and his wife, Ancuța.

The churchyard holds the cross from the first grave of the writer Liviu Rebreanu, who lived in Valea Mare in the last years of his life.
