Neamț Monastery
Mănăstirea Neamț, Neamț
Neamț Monastery is in Vânători-Neamț commune, Neamț County, in an area of forests and monastic villages. The main church, dedicated to the Ascension, was founded by Stephen the Great at the end of the fifteenth century. The walled enclosure with its towers grew up around older settlements.
The complex includes churches, chapels, monks’ cells and a museum of church art. The circular holy-water pavilion in front of the entrance is one of the monastery’s landmarks. The library and the printing tradition show the cultural role of the monastery, where numerous religious books were copied, preserved and printed.
