Neolog Synagogue in Arad

Arad, Arad

The Neolog Synagogue in Arad is located within the Jewish community complex, in the area of Cozia Street. The building was designed by Domokos Heim and erected during the time of Rabbi Aron Chorin, one of the figures in the history of the local community. The exterior uses classicist elements: semi-columns with Ionic capitals and a triangular pediment, integrated into a building with two upper floors.

The interior of the synagogue has a decoration inspired by Spanish Moorish architecture, with geometric motifs and colored surfaces. The organ is another important element of the place. The difference between the urban facade and the religious space inside is one of the particularities of the ensemble. To visit the interior, access is confirmed with representatives of the Jewish community. The exterior can be viewed from the public space, as part of a walk through the old center.
