Nera Gorge–Beușnița National Park
Cheile Nerei–Beușnița National Park is located in Caraș-Severin county, in the south of the Anina Mountains and near the settlements of Sasca Montană and Șopotu Nou. The Nera River carved high-walled gorges, caves and narrow sections into the limestone. Forests, springs and meadows on the cliffs form the main habitats of the protected area.
Among the landmarks of the park are Ochiul Beiului Lake, Beușniței waterfalls and Dracului Lake. The springs rich in limestone deposit travertine, the rock that shapes the thresholds of some waterfalls. Marked trails connect the valleys to the surrounding villages and plateaus. On the slopes grow beech forests and shrubland with lilac and the plants known locally as mojdrean and scumpie, adapted to the milder climate of Banat.
