Nera Gorge

Șopotu Nou–Sasca Montană, Caraș-Severin

The Nera Gorges stretch between the area of Șopotu Nou and Sasca Montană, in Caraș-Severin county. The river carved a valley in the limestone with steep walls, tight bends and sections where the rocks drop down to the water. The gorges are included in the Cheile Nerei–Beușnița National Park.

Along the valley you can see caves, springs and wooded slopes, and in some sectors the path passes through short tunnels dug into the rock. Lake Dracului is located in the upstream part, near the course of the Nera. Traversing the gorges is a mountain hike with exposed sections and water crossings; choose the route according to the park administration’s recommendations.
