Nica Filip Church in Vălenii de Munte
Vălenii de Munte, Prahova
Nica Filip Church, dedicated to the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple, is a masonry church covered with shingles. It was consecrated in 1808, and its founders were Nica Filip and Soare Pitoi.
Nica Filip was a logofăt (a clerk who drew up official documents) in Văleni, and Nicolae Iorga called him "the mocan logofăt", mocani being Romanian shepherd communities, mostly from southern Transylvania. His tombstone, from 1831, is in the churchyard.
