Nichita Stănescu Memorial Museum

Ploiești, Prahova

The Nichita Stănescu Memorial Museum in Ploiești is in the poet’s birthplace, on the street that bears his name. The house was built by the Stănescu family in 1926–1927, and the museum opened in 2002. The rooms preserve a link to Nichita’s childhood and teenage years: the bedroom, study, dining room and kitchen are furnished with objects that belonged to the family.

Furniture, photos and books bring visitors closer to the world in which the poet grew up. Among the pieces on display are the family's piano, desk and pendulum clock, objects that complete the biographical story. The house is simple in design, with rooms arranged in a row and windows to the courtyard. The visit emphasizes the relationship between family life, reading and the beginnings of an author whose poems left their mark on twentieth-century Romanian literature.
