Târpești, Petricani Commune · Neamț

In Târpești village, Petricani commune in Neamț county, the Nicolae Popa Museum brings together the creations of the folk artist and the objects collected by his family. Nicolae Popa made sculptures, masks and costumes, being also involved in preserving local folklore. The collection, open to the public since 1964, developed in the family house and its yard.

In the rooms, folk costumes, fabrics, ceramics, icons and tools used for shepherding or processing wool are exhibited. Other showcases hold coins, photographs and old household items. There are stone and wood sculptures in the courtyard, and the long porch of the house connects the exhibition spaces. The masks and characters modeled by the artist give the museum a distinct identity, along with the collections about village life in Neamț.
