Nicolae Romanescu Park

Craiova, Dolj

Nicolae Romanescu Park is in Craiova, Dolj County, on the land of the former Bibescu Garden. It was designed by the French landscape architect Édouard Redont and inaugurated in 1903. The winding paths follow the valleys and ridges of the terrain, among mature trees, lawns and bodies of water.

Among the landmarks are the suspension bridge, the Enchanted Castle and the Bibescu House. The lake is crossed by bridges and has an island, and the banks are lined with vegetation. The park’s design won an award at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. The landscaping uses changes in level and groups of trees to open up views of the water and the decorative buildings.
