Oașa Lake
Șureanu Mountains, Alba and Sibiu
Lake Oașa is located on the Sebeș River, in the Șureanu Mountains, on the border of Alba and Sibiu counties. The reservoir is surrounded by forested slopes, and the Transalpina road passes over the dam. From the shore there are views of the mountain peaks, including Vârful lui Pătru.
The dam came into operation in 1979 and is part of the Sebeș hydropower scheme. Built of compacted rock and faced with a layer of concrete, it closes off the gorge. The shape of the shores and the extent of the water surface depend on the level of the reservoir, which is used to generate electricity.
