Ocna Sibiului

Ocna Sibiului, a city in Sibiu county, is known for the salt lakes formed in the old salt mines. Where the galleries and chambers of the mines collapsed, the water occupied the depressions, and the salt beneath the ground gave birth to lakes with different concentrations.

Among the known lakes are Avram Iancu, Brâncoveanu and Ocnița, grouped in the resort area. The banks and old buildings of the baths keep the connection with the development of spa tourism from the nineteenth century. Nearby you can also see the historic churches of the town, located between the city districts and the surrounding low hills.
