Ocnele Mari Salt Mine

The Ocnele Mari salt mine can be visited in the town of Ocnele Mari, Vâlcea County, near Râmnicu Vâlcea. The tourist galleries are separated by large pillars of salt, whose surfaces reveal the layers of the deposit. This type of mining creates wide chambers, different from the narrow corridors of many caves. Underground access is organized by Salrom, with transport provided by the operator. The schedule may change depending on the season and the activity of the salt mine; check the operator’s website for entry times and the last descent.
