Old Town Hall in Călărași

Călărași, Călărași

The old town hall in Călărași, originally called the Municipal Palace, was built in 1886–1887 to plans by the architect Ion N. Socolescu. It stands near the Church of Saint Nicholas, on the site of the town’s former Central Inn. The building is neoclassical: at the entrance, four Doric columns support a balcony, and inside there are two wide and bright halls.

The town hall moved here in January 1888 and stayed until 1948. It returned in 1981 and left in 2013 for the Barbu Știrbei Palace. Since September 19, 2014, the building has housed the Călărași Municipal Museum. In July 2026, the town hall announced the restoration of the building.
