Oravița–Anina Railway

Oravița–Anina, Caraș-Severin

The Oravița-Anina railway crosses the mountains of Caraș-Severin county, between the two Banat towns. The line was inaugurated in 1863 for the transport of coal, and from 1869 it was also used by passengers. The route follows the slopes through tight curves, tunnels and viaducts, above wooded valleys.

On the 33.8 kilometers there are 14 tunnels and 10 viaducts. The Gârliște tunnel is the longest, and the Jitin viaduct stands out for its height and the curves at the ends. The line is known as the Banățean Semmering, after its resemblance to the Austrian mountain route. For the journey, consult the current offer and conditions of the railway operator.
