Pahomie Monastery
Pahomie Monastery lies near Cheia village, at the foot of the Buila-Vânturarița cliffs. The church stands right beneath a rock face that overhangs part of the building. The place is also known as Izvorul Frumos, a name linked to the hermitage’s beginnings. Monastic tradition names Pahomie and Sava among its founders.
After a period of abandonment, the church was rebuilt starting in 1952, reusing the surviving sections of wall. The consecration took place in 1956, and the murals painted at that time were later restored. The visit includes the small church, the rock under which it is sheltered and the surrounding forest; access requires traveling along the Cheia valley, outside the center of the resort.
