Painters' Colony in Baia Mare
The Baia Mare Painters' Colony is a set of workshops and exhibition spaces on Victoriei Street. Its history is linked to the painting school started in 1896 around Simon Hollósy and the artists attracted by the city's landscapes. The buildings were made in stages as the artistic activity developed. Today, the ensemble shows how a creative tradition can continue in a currently used space.
A visit can follow the announced exhibitions and the architecture of the buildings in the premises, noting the differences between the historic buildings and the contemporary interventions. The courtyard and common spaces complete the trail when open to the public. Workshops remain workplaces, and entry into them is only with the consent of those who use them. The information of the Colony indicates the exhibitions and events accessible during the visit.
