Petőfi Sándor Street and the Vigadó Building
The pedestrian Petőfi Sándor Street preserves part of the old commercial center of Miercurea Ciuc. Late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century facades line the street, among shops, schools and former residences. The Vigadó building, erected in 1904, stands out for its Art Nouveau decoration. Opposite is the Bochkor House, built in 1902.
On the same street is the former Civil School for Girls, completed in 1891 and used today by the Petőfi Sándor Secondary School. Other landmarks are the former Officers’ Club and the Pál Gábor House, at the junction with Tudor Vladimirescu Street. A walk along the street takes in the facades and the row of historic buildings; the buildings currently have different uses, from education to services and institutions.
