Pharmacy Museum in Cluj-Napoca

Cluj-Napoca · Cluj

The Museum of Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca occupies the old Hintz pharmacy, at the corner of Piața Unirii and Regele Ferdinand street. The pharmacy is attested in 1573, and the museum collection presents the tools and objects used by pharmacists over time. The museum functions as a section of the National History Museum of Transylvania, in its own premises.

In the room where the medicines were sold, the baroque mural from 1766 has been preserved. The furniture with drawers, earthenware dishes and glass containers show how the ingredients were kept. Scales, mortars, laboratory instruments and books follow the steps of preparing remedies. The collection started from the objects collected by Professor Iuliu Orient and was completed by donations. The visit links the history of a building in the center of Cluj to the evolution of a profession.
