Plott Hound
USA (North Carolina)
The Plott Hound is a large, brindle-coated American Hound originally bred for hunting bears. Wikipedia says that it has been the official state dog of North Carolina since 1989, and that of the seven coonhounds registered by the UKC, it is the only one not derived from the foxhound. The AKC describes him as independent, loyal and calm, intelligent, alert and self-assured. Not recognized by the FCI; AKC recognizes him since 2006.
