Poarta lui Ionele Cave
Gârda de Sus, Alba
Poarta lui Ionele Cave is located in Gârda de Sus commune, Alba county, on the slope of the Ordâncușa Valley. The entrance is a tall portal in the limestone walls of the Bihor Mountains. The cave is connected to the underground water flow of the nearby Ghețarul de sub Zgurăști area.
The gallery at the entrance and the stream show how the water shaped the rock. At the exit, the limestone deposits form steps and small travertine cascades down toward the valley. The cave has been explored by speleologists since the early twentieth century and was later developed for visitors.
