Porolissum

Jac–Moigrad-Porolissum, Sălaj

At Porolissum, in Sălaj county, the Roman ruins lie in the area of the villages of Jac and Moigrad-Porolissum. The main fort on the Pomăt hill, located in the territory of the Creaca commune, controlled the passage through the Meseș Mountains and was part of the border defense of the Dacia province.

You can see the gate of the fort, rebuilt to illustrate the ancient form, portions of the wall, paved roads and traces of military buildings. The amphitheater and remains of the civilian settlement document life outside the camp. Developed after the Roman conquest in 106, Porolissum became a military, commercial and administrative center of Dacia Porolissensis.
