Prahova County Museum of History and Archaeology
The Prahova County Museum of History and Archeology in Ploiești is housed in the former St. Peter and Paul secondary school, on Toma Caragiu Street. The neoclassical building was erected in the nineteenth century to designs by the architect Alexandru Orăscu and became a museum in 1970. The statues of saints at the entrance recall its original purpose. Inside, the exhibitions bring together the archeology of the county and the history of the city.
Discoveries from Valea Budureasca and other sites in Prahova explain the succession of communities that inhabited the region. Other rooms trace the growth of Ploiești, the events of the nineteenth century and the cultural life of the modern period. Collections of coins, medals, stamps and postcards offer a different view of history, through objects that passed from hand to hand. The visit thus moves from archaeological remains to documents and testimonies of everyday life.
