Precista Church in Târgu Ocna

Târgu Ocna, Bacău

Precista Church in Târgu Ocna, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, is the church of a former monastery linked to the Ivir monastery on Mount Athos. The current building was rebuilt and enlarged in 1859–1860 under the care of Abbot Damaschin Iviritul. The dedicatory inscription in Greek preserves information about this restoration.

The masonry is of brick and hewn stone, and the exterior plan is in the shape of a Greek cross. Above the porch rises the bell tower, in which there are four bells, one with a Greek inscription. The iconostasis was painted by D. Petrescu. Since 1885, it has been a parish church, and visiting the interior is adapted to the parish schedule.
