Precista Fortified Church

Galați, Galați

The Precista Fortified Church is located in Galați, Galați County, near the Danube embankment. The church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, was built in the seventeenth century and combines a religious role with a defensive one. The tower above the entrance and the thick walls dominate the silhouette of the building.

In the upper part, elements used for surveillance and defense are preserved, and the rooms of the tower could serve as a shelter. The church has been damaged and restored over time, preserving the character of the medieval construction. The architecture uses stone and brick, with details reminiscent of Wallachian and Moldavian traditions. Its location near the Danube links the monument to the history of the old port.
