Princely Church in Curtea de Argeș
The Princely Church of Saint Nicholas is located in the center of the city of Curtea de Argeș, in the county of Argeș. Basarab I's foundation was part of the old residence of the lords of Wallachia. The fourteenth-century building has a Byzantine-inspired plan, with a tower above the central space.
Inside, large areas of medieval painting have been preserved, made in the time of the descendants of Basarab I. The facades alternate stone with rows of brick, and around you can see the vestiges of the princely court. The church and the neighboring ruins document one of the first capitals of Wallachia.
