Princely Court in Târgoviște
The Princely Court of Târgoviște is in the historic center of Târgoviște, Dâmbovița County. The ensemble was the residence of the rulers of Wallachia and developed in several medieval stages. The Chindia Tower, the churches and the ruins of the palaces mark the site of the former princely court.
Within the walls you can see foundations, vaulted cellars and traces of the rooms where voivodes such as Vlad Țepeș and Petru Cercel lived and ruled. The Great Princely Church preserves murals painted in the time of Constantin Brâncoveanu. The Chindia Tower was used for watch and defense, and its present form reflects nineteenth-century restorations.
