Prislop Monastery
Silvașu de Sus, Hunedoara
Prislop Monastery is located near Silvașu de Sus, part of the town of Hațeg in Hunedoara County. The complex's stone church was built in the sixteenth century with the support of Princess Zamfira, daughter of Moise Vodă. The monastic buildings are set in a meadow surrounded by wooded hills.
The church, the entrance tower and the cemetery are the landmarks of the complex. The cemetery holds the grave of Arsenie Boca, a former monk of the monastery; his grave draws many pilgrims. Nearby there is also a cell carved into the rock, linked to the tradition of the Prislop hermits.
