Putna Monastery

Putna, Suceava

Putna Monastery, from Putna commune, Suceava county, is the foundation where the tomb of Stephen the Great is located. Founded in the fifteenth century, it became an important center for copying manuscripts, embroidery and working on church objects.

In the church are the tombs of the ruler and his family members. The courtyard is surrounded by walls and monastic buildings, and the Treasury Tower preserves traces of the old fortification. The monastery museum brings together medieval embroideries, manuscripts, icons and objects of worship, which document the workshops and princely donations related to the history of Putna.
