Rânca Resort
Rânca, Novaci and Baia de Fier, Gorj
Rânca is a mountain resort in the Parâng Mountains, at 1,600 meters above sea level, on the Transalpina road (DN67C). It is located 18 kilometers from Novaci, at the foot of the Păpușa Peak, and belongs to the city of Novaci and Baia de Fier commune.
The first six cabins were started in 1930 by Banca Populară "Gilortul" from Novaci, according to a project by Dumitru Brezulescu, and the central cabin was opened in 1937. Due to the altitude, the snow usually lasts from December to March, and in summer the resort is a starting point for mountain hikes.
