Red and Green Lakes in Sovata
The Red and Green Lakes lie next to each other in Sovata, Mureș County, near Ursu Lake. They are two small pools formed in the resort's salt landscape. Red Lake has an area of about 1,050 square meters and a maximum depth of 2.55 meters; its shape was changed by a landslide. Green Lake is smaller and shallower, with an area of about 215 square meters.
The names refer to the appearance of the water. In Red Lake, Artemia salina crustaceans and fallen leaves contribute to the colors you see, while Green Lake reflects the trees on its shore. Nearby there are also bare salt surfaces, part of the Salt Mountain. The paths in this part of Sovata let you see both lakes on the same walk, along with the wooded shores and the salt landforms.
